Melton Class North Tuesdays 9:30 - 11:45 a.m. 
Rhythms of Jewish Living focuses on the ideas, beliefs and practices that shape a Jewish life.  Rabbi Raskin will be teaching Purposes of Jewish Living which concentrates on the ultimate purposes of Judaism.  Dramas of Jewish Living explores Jewish history as a tool to strengthen Jewish memory.  Ethics of Jewish Living is a text-centered approach to the study of Jewish ethical foundations.

Yom Kippur Study Session – September 22, 2007 4:00 PM  
An in-depth look at the origin, history, and emotional effect the Kol Nidre prayer holds for those that hear it. The discussion will be led by Seth Miller.

“Walking with God”  A bi-monthly series to be led by Rabbi Raskin. 
The Rabbi will examine how God is imagined in the Bible, Talmud, Midrash, Halakha, Kabbalah, and in Jewish Philosophy. Participants will also keep a journal to reflect personally on how these ideas and texts impact their own personal theology. Begins October 10 from 7:30 to 9:00 PM and then meets on the Wednesday of every even week. Free to members, $90.00 for non-members. Please contact the synagogue office to reserve your place.

Judaism for the Curious and Questioning
Rabbi Raskin will teach this 20 week course meeting on the odd weeks of the month starting Wednesday, October 17, 2007 from 7:30 -9:00 PM.  Some of the “Walking with God” classes will be required for those wishing to convert to Judaism.  There is a fee for non-affiliated members and will require the purchasing of a book.  Contact the Rabbi through the synagogue office for further details.

Adult Continuing Education (ACE)  
Facilitated by Nancy Siegel, ACE will continue discussions of Pirke Avot (Sayings of the Fathers).  Also, please bring any other Pirke Avot sources that you may have so we can compare translations and commentaries.  Dates and times can be found in The Family Record or contact the Synagogue office for more information.

Scholar in Residence Weekend - March 28, 29, 30, 2008
Dr. Amy-Jill Levine will lead us in a wonderful weekend of study and insight.  Dr. Levine is E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School.  Professor Levine’s numerous books, articles, and essays address such topics as Second-Temple Judaism, Christian origins, Jewish-Christian relations, and biblical women. A widely sought-after speaker, she has given hundreds of talks on biblical topics throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Her awards include grants from the Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the American Council of Learned Societies. Dr. Stephen Swisher, Executive Pastor of the Lovers Lane United Methodist Church and the Dallas Director of Christians United for Israel will speak about his faith’s interests and need for the success of a Jewish State.

Simon Wiesenthal Center will present a session on current news about Israel and “fighting the big lie with the truth” in the media.
