PreSchool - Extracurricular Activities
A Different 4th of July!!!!
Beth Torah Preschool & Kindergarten celebrated the 4th of July with a blast from the cold! The children enjoyed climbing a mountain of snow on the school lawn. Snowballs and sculptures were the tasks of the day.
What can be more fun than playing with mittens while wearing bathing suits & shorts on a sultry 90 + degree day, you ask? Doing all this and topping it off with a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream or sorbet treat! Ben & Jerry’s ice cream czar, Hunter Rose, has supplied the yummy treats for the last 4 years. The children look forward to the cold experience both by taste & feel.
The children celebrated the meaning of the 4th of July the whole week. Flag making was just one of the many activities.
The children at Camp Chaverim, being held at Beth Torah Preschool & Kindergarten have been enjoying a lovely camp experience with swimming & tennis at Canyon Creek Country Club, fabulous themed weeks like an Olympic theme, Disney theme, Nature Week and Israel’s 60th birthday.
Come and join the fun.
Thanksgiving and Shabbat at Beth Torah!
Thanksgiving is a family holiday and we at Beth Torah Preschool & Kindergarten think of ourselves as a family. We invited grandparents and special friends on Friday, November 21. Everyone was invited to Shabbat in the Sanctuary and then we dispersed to our respective classrooms. We blessed candles, ate Challah & sipped grape juice. There were many bonding opportunities between grandparents and children. It was the greatest attended event! Grandparents traveled to Dallas early so that they could enjoy the extended time with family - a look at all the smiling faces says it all.

The 2008 Presidential Election at Beth Torah Preschool
The results of the election are in!!!! At Beth Torah Preschool & Kindergarten, by 9 a.m., Tuesday, November 4 all early voting and Election Day voting had been tabulated. Barak Obama was found to be the winner with 66 votes. John McCain received 44 votes and there was a write in for Hillary Clinton & one for Ms. Pat, our Kindergarten teacher.
The children hand made a polling booth at Precinct 613 (perhaps that number rings a bell as it is the number of daily mitzvot). Our Kindergarten children acted as precinct captains, they made the ballots, and they designed the signs and tallied the ballots.
All in all, it was a great experience. We will not have real results at the time of the writing of this article. It was a great lesson in Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, etc. It was also a Civics lesson. The children understood that there were issues and discussions. Comparisons of different elections from different countries were also discussed. Most of all the children understood that whoever will be president – once elected he must be given respect and an opportunity to run the county in a safe democratic way.
After all, the children are the leaders of tomorrow.
