Groups at Beth Torah

Social programs help make a synagogue feel like home. At Beth Torah we are committed to offering programs for all our members by providing a wide range of established programs along with an opportunity to create new ones to meet our congregation's evolving needs. First year dues for Sisterhood and Men's Club are complimentary, once you become a member of Beth Torah.

Sisterhood
Beth Torah Sisterhood plays a vital role in our synagogue in countless ways. From catering simchas to helping families in need, our Sisterhood provides a wide range of opportunities for involvement. Sisterhood operates the Beth Torah Judaica shop, hosts guest speakers and book reviews, organizes blood drives, sends High Holiday greetings, and sponsors the annual Yom Kippur break-the-fast, as well as our annual Miriam's Seder. Sisterhood also sponsors social events such as the Paid-Up Membership Brunch, recipe exchanges, field trips, etc. Participation in Sisterhood events contributes to our synagogue, our community, and to our own personal growth. Volunteer opportunities are available for both ongoing projects and one-time events.

Men's Club
Beth Torah Men's Club's objective is to provide opportunities for social interaction among its members. We create activities that benefit the synagogue, are of service to the community and provide enjoyment for our members and the entire congregation. Our Men's Club holds monthly breakfast meetings featuring a delicious lox and bagel buffet and interesting speakers. Our 24-hour vigil "Remembering the Names" Holocaust Memorial was a winner of the Solomon Schechter Silver Award. Throughout the year, the Men's Club sponsors a variety of sports, recreation, and Mitzvah programs; builds the congregational sukkah; helps usher during High Holiday services and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs; distributes Yom Hashoah memorial candles; hosts the Men's Club Shabbat Weekend; and organizes our parent-child minyan in conjunction with the national "World Wide Wrap" program.

Social Committee
The Social Committee offers events for members to create a feeling of family. By reaching out to people of all age groups, we provide an opportunity for members to get to know each other. We offer different events throughout the year, such as bunko night, Texas Hold 'Em night, dessert night, family picnics and other exciting events. Our congregational Shabbat dinners are enjoyed by all as we join together to welcome Shabbat.

Younq Couples
The Young Couples group plays a critical role in the synagogue by enabling couples ages 20 to 40-with or without children-to get together for social activities. Recent events included a potluck dinner, games night, dessert night, pizza night, bowling night, and a dinner out. Watch for bimonthly events announced in the synagogue bulletin.

Chavurot
Chavurot are groups of people within the congregation who get together monthly to study, celebrate and socialize. Chavurot organize around a variety of different interests; some are for adults only whereas others welcome children. The coordinator can help you find a chavurah that meets your interests or can assist in creating a new chavurah. Periodically all of the havurot come together to sponsor synagogue wide programs.

Social Action Committee
Our Social Action Committee plans and supports various drives and events, which benefit different aspects of our community. Recent projects include the Karen Leynor Mitzvah Day and Project Isaiah.

Chai Lights
"Chai Lights" is our new senior group for people 55 years or older. This newly formed group is for those active seniors interested in fun, social activities with like minded people.
