Dear Friends,

To mark Congregation Beth Torah’s 50th anniversary, we are embarking on an ambitious capital campaign, our largest fundraising effort since the successful Burn the Mortgage Campaign more than a decade ago, to help ensure the future of our synagogue.

The Beth Torah Century Campaign aims to raise $1 million.

Why are we doing this?

· As we begin our second half-century, we celebrate our achievements and our history, but we also face challenges to sustain and grow our congregation.

· We have been fortunate in the past two years to assemble a terrific professional staff – Rabbi Sydni Rubinstein, Learning Center Director Brandi Hunter and Chief Administrator Katie Babin – to lead us forward. The initial results, and the optimism for the future, are already apparent.

· It is essential to our synagogue’s development that we retain them and then augment them with more paid professionals. Our current budget, with our current membership, makes that a tenuous, year-to-year proposition. We were only able to hire our first Chief Administrator, for example, thanks to a matching grant that will be exhausted in 2025.

· The Beth Torah Century Campaign will establish a nest egg outside the regular budget that would be devoted to personnel expenses as necessary. This will help ensure continuity in the synagogue’s professional staff and provide Beth Torah with a cushion to ensure we can retain that staff even in a down financial year.

· This enhanced staffing can broaden our programming and our appeal, enable our kitchen to provide better Onegs, and strengthen our focus on attracting new members – all keys to building a better Beth Torah for the long term.

· We plan to honor all donors in an appropriate manner yet to be determined.

Our Century Campaign committee is chaired by Allan Rosen and Cliff Friedman, and includes Vikki Silvis, Cyd Friedman, Alan Hoffman, and Larry Guzick. The committee will be reaching out to explain our goals further, answer any questions, and ask for your help. We hope you will respond as generously as you can for the synagogue we all love.

B’vracha,

Michael Precker, President

Rabbi Sydni Rubinstein
