Leynor Family Mitzvah Day

CBT holds an annual day of community service called, Leynor Family Mitzvah Day (LFMD) honoring the memory of the wife of our former rabbi, Jeffrey Leynor (זצ"ל) and his wife Karen Leynor (זצ"ל), a social worker who truly enjoyed helping others.

Karen Clar Leynor died tragically, September 9th, 2004, at the young age of 38 from a brain aneurysm. In her much too short life, she went out of her way to make a difference in this world.

Rabbi Jeffrey Leynor passed away September 16th, 2020. Jeffrey was the rabbi of our congregation from 1989 to 2006. He helped us thrive and grow into the incredible congregation and community we are today.

On LFMD, congregants of all ages participate in a variety projects which vary from year to year, such as:

  • Cooking and playing games with residents of Chai Community Homes
  • Transcribing oral histories at the Dallas Jewish Historical Society
  • Playing bingo with the residents at Golden Acres
  • Serving lunch to clients at the Salvation Army
  • Knitting infant caps for premature babies
  • Hosting parties for residents of youth shelters
  • Writing letters and cards to military personnel and first responders
  • Polishing the silver ritual ornaments used at Beth Torah
